👨‍🚀 Greetings, Commanders!

💡 The HQ has released another SpaceMyth segment issue. Within this one, the team decided to test one of the most popular myths regarding the shields’ function features.

Here are the myth conditions:

❓ Will the players’ shields (their defensive fields, to be exact) protect from the opponents’ projectiles while the players’ ship will experience a lack of energy?

To check this myth, we made a special build for Mjollnir Mk2 with a focus on the defense. This will prolong Arena battles so HQ staff could gather more info. Also, we initially made a low-power build to make modules turn off more frequently, including shields. The energy deficit for this build equals 497,1.

The build for Hammerhead ships-supports made by the HQ was also focused on the defense, though the energy deficit was not provided.

After the preparation stage, five Arena battles were conducted using the 1x speed. The lasers-based enemy ships were skipped. During the battles, HQ staff had to observe the defensive fields of the shields. Will they appear when an enemy projectile will try to hit a ship with a lack of energy on it?

Commanders may get acquainted with some footage from the conducted Arena battles. Here are the main timecodes:

  • 0:34-0:36 – First battle. The ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. One of the main reactors was damaged. One of the War Shields was destroyed.
  • 0:44-0:45 – First battle. The back side of a ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. Two small reactors were destroyed. A couple of Small reactive armor modules were destroyed.
  • 0:48-0:50 – First battle. The front side of a ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. One of the main reactors was destroyed.
  • 1:01 – Second battle. The front side of a ship was hit with ballistic projectiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. The frontal armor modules were damaged.
  • 1:10-1:12 – Second battle. The right side of the ship was hit with ballistic projectiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. One of the War Shields was destroyed.
  • 1:35-1:37 – Third battle. The left side of the ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work.
  • 1:40-1:42 – Third battle. The back side of a ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. One of the War Shields was destroyed.
  • 2:06-2:08 – Fourth battle. The left side of the ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. Two small reactors were destroyed.
  • 2:11-2:13 – Fourth battle. The back side of a ship was hit with missiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. Two War Shields were destroyed.
  • 2:28-2:30 – Fifth battle. The front side of a ship was hit with ballistic projectiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. A Small laser module and a couple of Small reactive armor modules were destroyed. One of the War Shields was damaged.
  • 2:34-2:36 – Fifth battle. The back side of a ship was hit with ballistic projectiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. A Small reactor and Small shield modules were destroyed.
  • 2:49-2:51 – Fifth battle. The back side of a ship was hit with ballistic projectiles during the lack of energy. Defensive fields didn’t work. The Ion engine module was damaged.

Thus, HQ can answer the stated myth: defensive fields of the shields won’t be activated if there is an energy deficit on a ship. So, both missiles and ballistic projectiles may damage or destroy other modules on a ship during the “energy blackout”.

✅ The myth is confirmed!

💬 And that’s all, Commanders! Did you know about the existence of this myth? Did you believe in it? Or did the investigation of the HQ become a real surprise for you? In any case, we’d love to hear your opinion! We would also welcome your suggestions on the following myths to check!

See you all at the Arena!
